Anthropic extends a GSA discount on Claude to every level of US government
Anthropic's post, published 27 October 2026, says it is expanding a partnership with the US General Services Administration. The new agreement gives government partners a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government and the Claude API. Anthropic says that, for the first time, the discount applies across every product surface, including direct purchases today and purchases through cloud providers in the coming months. It also extends to state, local, tribal and territorial governments.

The post says the discounts are estimated to save the government $1 billion. It says agencies are not bound by a minimum spend and pay for the usage they consume. It says approximately 500 US federal, state and local government organisations now use Claude, that weekly Claude for Government active users are up about eightfold since February, and that usage across federal civilian agencies has grown about 20-fold in a year. It says government agencies can buy Claude at the OneGov discount through GSA's Multiple Award Schedule today.
On security authorisations, the post says Claude for Government was made generally available on 30 September and is at FedRAMP High. It says Claude on Amazon Bedrock is authorised for FedRAMP High, with select models authorised for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads in AWS GovCloud. It says Claude on Google Cloud's Vertex AI is authorised for FedRAMP High. It says Claude Enterprise is in process for FedRAMP Moderate authorisation through the FedRAMP 20x program.
What it means for business: this is a procurement discount, not a new legal duty and not a new model. The $1 billion figure is Anthropic's estimate of savings, and the post does not set a minimum spend. Agencies that already buy Claude, or that buy it through Bedrock or Vertex AI, are the ones the discount is written for.
