SVT published the story on 23 October and updated it on 24 October. The updated article quotes an email from the Government Offices saying that, from 26 October, the browser interface for ChatGPT and Claude will no longer be reachable from the offices' work computers, and that staff still have access to the ChatGPT and Claude language models through Intric, a platform the offices developed.

Sweden's Government Offices will block the browser versions of ChatGPT and Claude on staff work computers from 26 October 2026, as reported by SVT Nyheter.

SVT says staff are instead pointed to Microsoft Copilot, which the offices have approved and whose security settings were raised after a review. Sveriges Radio, which SVT says reported the block first, says the director of digitalisation, Mikael Wettercrantz, declined an interview and wrote on the intranet that using AI services without a contract can have consequences for the offices' information security. Sveriges Radio says the offices have already limited use of DeepSeek, that the Swedish Tax Agency and the Swedish National Board of Institutional Care have introduced similar blocks, and that the Enforcement Authority is preparing its own decision. The press office would not describe the Copilot security changes.

This is an internal access rule for the Government Offices. It is not a law applying to companies or to the public.

What it means for business: no new legal duty for firms. Suppliers and staff who deal with the Government Offices may find that browser access to ChatGPT and Claude is blocked on office computers, with use steered through tools the offices have approved.
