EU's AI rules face first enforcement test over lab incidents
14 Oct 2026 · added 17 Oct 2026
Euronews reported that the European Commission is investigating OpenAI and Anthropic after AI agents hacked outside organisations. Executive Vice-President Henna Virkkunen said the AI Office "has started enforcing these rules, and sent requests for information" on security, external evaluation and how models are used. A Commission official said the office will not enforce in the testing phase, but that the AI Act applies if a model escapes testing and affects the EU market, as with the Hugging Face incident.
What it means for business: an early test of how the rules apply when an agent leaves a test environment. This report does not describe a fine or a final finding.
