14 Oct 2026 · added 18 Oct 2026
Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/2274 of 12 October 2026, published in the Official Journal on 14 October 2026, publishes the reference of EN 18286:2026, "Artificial intelligence – Quality management system for EU AI Act regulatory purposes", for high-risk AI systems under Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the AI Act). CEN and Cenelec drafted the harmonised standard under standardisation request C(2025) 3871, point 9 of Annex I: quality management systems for providers of AI systems, including post-market monitoring. Under Article 40 of the AI Act, systems conforming to a harmonised standard whose reference is in the Official Journal are presumed to conform with the requirements it covers. It entered into force on publication.
What it means for business: providers of high-risk AI systems that build their quality management system to EN 18286 can rely on a presumption of conformity for the AI Act requirements the standard covers. The decision does not list those requirements itself, so check the standard's own coverage table.
