UK and Canada renew their AI security partnership
13 Oct 2026 · added 18 Oct 2026
The UK and Canadian governments announced on 13 October that they are renewing their partnership on AI security, building on the Science of AI Safety Partnership first announced in May 2024. The partnership recommits the Canadian AI Safety Institute and the UK AI Security Institute to working together. It sets three priorities: collaborating on interoperable AI security standards and identifying areas for common international standards; sharing more information on AI security, including sensitive reporting through Five Eyes channels; and widening technical cooperation, with regular exchanges on frontier AI capabilities, emerging risks and evaluation methods, and exploring staff exchanges and coordinated evaluations. The announcement creates no new obligations for companies.
What it means for business: no new rules, but closer UK-Canada work on AI security standards and model evaluations could shape what both governments expect from AI developers and suppliers in future.
