Japan's AI Safety Institute adds education and geospatial AI workstreams

Japan's AI Safety Institute reported on its 2026 work on 7 October, with new sub-working groups on generative AI in schools and geospatial AI alongside healthcare, robotics, data quality and conformity assessment. It also updated its open-source AI safety evaluation environment.

What it means for business: voluntary guidance; firms selling AI in Japanese healthcare, robotics or education can use AISI evaluation guides.
