Australian Parliament's AI inquiry holds hearings ahead of 30 November report
9 Oct 2026 · added 17 Oct 2026
The Joint Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence, appointed on 20 August, began public hearings in October. Its terms include the adequacy of existing laws, risks such as deepfakes and harms to children, and the role of the Australian AI Safety Institute. It must report by 30 November 2026.
What it means for business: the report may recommend new AI rules; watch for recommendations on high-risk uses and incident reporting.
