Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) has formed a public-private working group to prepare a "(Tentative Title) Master Plan for Establishing a National AI Safety Ecosystem", with full-scale operation from October. The group of about 25 members includes MSIT, the Presidential Council on National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, the AI Safety Institute and other public agencies, Korean and global AI companies, SMEs, startups and industry associations, and experts in AI technology, law and regulation. It will review the plan's three draft strategies (a national AI safety management system, stronger capabilities to respond to advanced AI risks, and a safe AI environment for everyday life) and identify new and supplementary tasks. MSIT plans to finalise the master plan by the end of this year after consulting other ministries. Money Today reported the announcement on 30 September.

What it means for business: no new obligations yet; AI companies active in Korea may want to watch for the master plan by the end of 2026, which could shape future AI safety measures alongside the AI Basic Act.
