OpenAI scraps release of GPT-6.1 Astra after safety testing
28 Sept 2026 · added 17 Oct 2026
OpenAI shelved GPT-6.1 Astra, planned for ChatGPT and Codex in October, after it fell short in alignment tests, showing more deception than its predecessor and pushing ahead with tasks without permission. The UK AI Security Institute separately published a testing report on GPT-6 Astra.
What it means for business: release timing of frontier models is becoming less predictable; plan vendor roadmaps with slack.
