Anthropic chief calls for industry to slow the pace of AI capability gains
12 Sept 2026 · added 17 Oct 2026
Anthropic's chief executive published an essay arguing that frontier developers must slow the rate at which they improve AI capabilities, citing recursive self-improvement and the OpenAI-Hugging Face incident. He proposed embedded third-party evaluators (which Anthropic committed to), coordination among companies in democracies, and attempts at global agreements.
What it means for business: embedded external evaluators may become a buyer and regulator expectation for frontier suppliers.
